Nina Haley: Salmiya, Kuwait

Yoga has become an intricate part of my life. As a student, yoga has taken me on a journey into myself, discovering my own true nature, seeking out joy and happiness on a daily basis, exploring love for the divine, myself, others, and all that is around me. As a yoga teacher I consider myself a facilitator, someone who holds space for others to discover who they really are physically, mentally and emotionally. As a facilitator I create space for students to explore their potential and empower themselves from within, just like others have held space for me and created space for me to learn and grow spiritually. I am always a student, before I am ever a teacher.

I began practicing yoga in 2003 when I found out I was pregnant with twins. I was a personal trainer and fitness competitor looking for a gentle, loving way to prepare for labor, birth and motherhood. At the time I fell in love with Kundalini and Tantra yoga as I prepared for arrival of my children, I recognized my own emotional and spiritual empowerment. After birth I began practicing Ashtanga and Hatha yoga, before incorporating yoga postures into my personal training client’s workout routines in 2007. I witnessed the physical, mental, and spiritual growth of my clients when they began practicing yoga.

In 2013 I took Faith Hunter’s 200hr Hatha Vinyasa yoga teacher training and have been facilitating yoga classes and private lessons ever since. Student feedback is what keeps me teaching yoga, watching and witnessing students come into their own personal sense of power is truly humbling. To see how yoga positively impacts people’s lives brings me joy.

My main audience and focus in facilitating yoga is to support women of color in their life’s journey as they overcome past and current traumas, stigmas, blocks, and injustices they experience in society. I aim to create and hold space for women of color to explore their bodies, minds, hearts, souls, menstrual cycles, and sexuality through yoga asana, meditation, yoga nidra, and sexual and reproductive health education.
