My yoga journey started over 20 years ago when my friend took me to a class. I loved it! I knew that I needed help with healing and learning self love. Yoga allowed me to sit with my stuff and gave me tools to move though my stuff.
I began teaching in 2003 with a limited Yogafit Level 1 certification. I worked with Yogafit for three years and learned a lot. But when a year-long local training became available close to my home, I had to sign up. I knew that I needed be with people and not do this on my own. So in 2010 I started my Integrated Yoga Therapy training. I had a crazy year and at times didn’t think I would finish. But I did.
My Yogafit training has helped me to teach safe sequences, and my Integrated Yoga Therapy training has helped me with the spiritual part of the yoga journey. At times it feels like I took five years be become a certified yoga teacher!
I have been teaching yoga to my community since 2004. I started teaching with my friends, then at my local school, and finally at my local recreation department. In 2014 I felt the need to have my own space, so I opened Strong Body/Strong Mind Family Yoga. Opening a studio has been a challenging journey. My first space was sunny and bright, but when a YMCA opened, 70% of my students left to join. Next, I moved in with a fellow yoga teacher that needed help paying the bills. We worked together for about a year. Then I moved to my current location with some amazing healers. My yoga practice and journey helped me with the loss of my dream studio space, helped me not lose it when the second space was taken away, and gave me the courage to move one more time to finally find a home.
